Hi, my name is Jose Sanchez. I'm an associate professor of architecture here at the University of Michigan. My professional journey combines design technology using programming, digital fabrication to think about design and architecture in multiple ways. I'm the director of a design studio called the Plethora Project, which is a research initiative that uses video games and different forms of software to engage in ecological and architectural thinking. I've developed video games such as Block'hood and Common'hood that really want to be public facing projects. A highlight of my work that is connected to generative design, which is something that we will be learning here, but also digital fabrication, has been the co development of the Bloom project, which was an interactive installation developed for the London Olympic Games in 2012. That project explores how generative design really can open up the possibilities of design and computing. My academic contributions also include the book the Architecture for the commons participatory systems in the age of platforms, where I delve deeper into how the design of parts and systems enable participatory design practices. I'm very excited to share with you some of my experience in this certificate. I have a personal passion for connecting technology with design and really thinking creatively the moment where we're actually writing code. I don't think we're going to just learn how to code here. We're actually going to start thinking about how do we creatively design through code, right? So I can't wait to see you in class.
