To achieve a Statement of Accomplishment (or Verified Certificate if doing Signature Track) you need to obtain a grade of 65% overall. The grade is calculated based on scores achieved across all the End of Week Quizzes and the End of Course Exam, depending on weighting as explained below.

Deadlines and extensions

With regret, we cannot grant extensions or accept late work for any reason. We advise you to submit your quizzes, exam work and required evaluations early, as late submissions will not contribute to your course grade. Important: all deadlines are given in UK time which is UTC + 1:00 (you can convert to your local time using the world clock).

In-video quizzes

These are interactive elements of the lecture videos, which you can try if you are streaming the videos. These are fun, optional exercises and do not affect your course grade.

End of week quizzes

Weighting: 60% of total grade (Week 1 = 8%, then Weeks 2, 3, 4 and 5 = 13% each)

Each lecture quiz will contain between 10 and 15 questions, and you will have until the Sunday the 13th of September at 09:00 to finish all of them (UK time, UTC + 1 hour -- convert to your local time using the world clock). However, we strongly urge you to do them each week as you move along with the lectures. In any case, All quizzes are submitted through the course website and will be graded electronically by the course software. For lecture quizzes you will be allowed 5 attempts, and the maximum score will count towards your grade.

End of course exam

Weighting: 40% of total grade

The final exam for the course includes some multiple-choice questions and a peer assessment exercise. We will challenge you to use your music theory knowledge to analyse a score and answer a variety of questions that will test your knowledge and understanding of the course content. Your work will then be reviewed by members of the class, and assigned a score based on their evaluations. Evaluation of your peers' work is a required part of the final exam. In order for this score to contribute to your course grade you must provide evaluations for at least 3 essays from other members of the class.

The submission phase for the course exam:
  • begins at 00.00 am on Monday the 7th September
  • ends at 9.00 am on Monday the 14th September
The required evaluation phase
  • begins at 9.00 am on Monday the 14th September
  • ends at 9.00 am on Monday the 21st September

Please read the Peer Assessment guidance carefully (once the page goes live), and observe the policy of no extensions as explained above.

Downloading your Statement of Accomplishment or Verified Certificate

Once the final deadline has passed, the whole class will be graded. It takes about a week for the Statements of Accomplishment and Verified Certificates to be approved and released. Once these are ready, everyone will be notified by email with instructions on how to check your Course Records an download your Statement (or Verified Certificate if you've signed up for Signature Track).
