FINAL ASSESSMENT Help Center Learn more.

Welcome to the final assessment.  Please read the following instructions carefully.

Based on feedback from students last year, we have changed the format of the final assessment. The final exam for this course comprises 3 parts, as follows:

1. End of Course Exam - Part 1 (to be completed by the 14th of September).
This is a number of multiple choice questions related to specific elements of a given piece of sheet music. You will be permitted 3 attempts at this part of the assessment and your best attempt (i.e. highest grade) will count towards your exam score.

2. End of Course Exam - Part 2 (to be completed by the 14th of September)
This is a number of questions that require discursive answers to questions about the same piece of sheet music. These answers will be peer reviewed and your mark for this part of the exam will be the median score awarded by your peers.

3. Evaluate the work of three of your peers (to be completed by the 21st of September)
This is a mandatory component of the assessment and you will not receive a grade if you fail to complete this element of the exam.  You will be provided with detailed exam criteria in order to complete your reviews.

We recommend you complete part 1 of the exam first, before progressing to the 2nd part, but for both parts of the exam you can save your attempt as you go along, so you can come back later.

The exam is based on a piece of music - please CLICK HERE to download the score (PDF). You will need to refer to the score in order to answer the questions

REMEMBER, to submit your assignment you must click submit before the deadline (see the grading and logistics page for guidance on completing the course).

NOTE: Part 3 of the exam, the evaluation phase, will automatically open on the 14th of September and you will be assigned work to evaluate.

Note: The explanations below cover the general process. Please make sure to go to the individual assignment pages and read the instructions contained therein, as those specific instructions may override the general instructions below.

Time What happens then
Assignment starts
Mon 7th Sept
00.00 am (UTC+1)

After this time, you can see the assignment and start working on it. You can save drafts of your work as you go along, and you can come back later to continue working on your draft. When you're ready to submit your work for evaluation, remember to click the "Submit" button. If the deadline passes and you haven't clicked "Submit" yet, then your saved draft will not be evaluated.

Note: You can submit and re-submit your work for evaluation as many times as you want before the submission deadline, without any penalty. Only your last submission will be seen and evaluated by your classmates.

Submission deadline
Mon 14th Sept
9.00 am (UTC+1)
After this time, you can no longer change your submission. If you have not clicked the "Submit" button by this time, your classmates will not see your submission, you will not receive an evaluation for this assignment, and you will not be permitted to evaluate your classmates' submissions.
Evaluation starts
Mon 14th Sept
10.00 am (UTC+1)

After this time, you will evaluate the work of a minimum number of your peers. Finally, you will evaluate your own work.

Optionally, you can choose to evaluate the work of even more of your classmates before the evaluation deadline passes. This is very helpful for the success of the course.

Remember: as with the submission stage, this evaluation stage is required if you want your own assignment submission to be evaluated.

Evaluation deadline
Mon 21st Sept
9.00 am (UTC+1)
After this time, you can no longer evaluate the work your peers or your own. If you have not finished your assigned evaluation tasks by this time, your own assignment may not be evaluated and you may receive a grade penalty.
