Downloading Matlab or Octave

Mathworks has kindly agreed to provide a free copy of Matlab for the duration of this course.
You can download your free copy of Matlab using the link:
https://www.mathworks.com/licensecenter/classroom/compneuro
(Note: The license for your copy of Matlab will expire 30 days after the end of the course)

You may also use Octave, which runs most Matlab programs and can be downloaded for free from the GNU Octave website.

Matlab/Octave Tutorials

If you are new to Matlab/Octave, we encourage you to do one or more of the following:

  1. Watch the Matlab tutorial videos by Mathworks below.
  2. Watch the Octave tutorial videos by Andrew Ng by clicking here.
  3. Download the following two files: tutorial.m and fibonacci.m .
  4. Save both files to the same directory (making sure they are in your Matlab/Octave folder) and then open tutorial.m (you can use any text editor). Make sure you have a Matlab or Octave window open. Go over the text of tutorial.m, copying and pasting commands into the Matlab/Octave window as you go along.
  5. When running files, simply type the name of the program into the command window e.g.tutorial for tutorial.m (Similarly for other .m files)
