Grading

Your course grade will be based on your performance in homework quizzes (there will be no exams in this course). Homeworks will be released on Fridays and will be due on the second Monday after release date. The "hard deadline" (see Late Submission Policy below) will be June 29, 2015 (10 days after the last set of lectures for the course is released).

Course grade will be calculated from your performance in the homework quizzes as follows:

  • Each homework quiz will contribute equally to the final score (except Quiz 1, the Matlab/Octave quiz, which is optional and will not contribute to your score).
  • You may attempt each quiz multiple times until the hard deadline (note: Lecture 1 mentions 3 attempts, but we will allow more than 3).
  • The maximum score from all of your attempts will be your score for the quiz.
  • Your final course grade will be the average of all your quiz scores.
The above grading scheme is designed to encourage as many of you as possible to try and complete the assessment work. We believe that this will really help you to crystallize the understanding you gain from the course. We realize that for some of you, the material is quite unfamiliar, and that you have many demands on your time. So we have tried to be generous in allowing multiple attempts. Give it a go, use the forums for help, and good luck!

Lecture Quiz Questions

We have embedded quiz questions within the lecture videos to help you better understand the concepts introduced in the lectures. You can choose to answer or skip these questions as they show up when you are viewing the lecture videos. Your performance on these questions will have no effect on your course grade.

Late Submission Policy

Homework submissions after the official due date will be accepted with a 10% late submission penalty until the hard deadline (June 29, 2015).

Statement of Accomplishment

You will get a Statement of Accomplishment from the instructors if your final course grade is > 60% of the maximum possible course grade.
