Week 5 Help Center Learn more.

In the final week of the AI Planning course we look at plan execution, taking a specific application to deep space mission autonomy. We also give a summary of the common themes found in AI planning methods used in practical applications. We finish up by considering the broader techniques needed both before and after planning to be able to create and use plans intelligently. This includes knowledge engineering for planning domains, time and resource scheduling.

In this final week there are also the Awareness Level and Foundation Level exams to complete. A good score is needed on the Awareness Level exam, and this must also be taken by those seeking the Foundation and Performance Levels. But please do not be put off, the Awareness Level exam is intended to be straightforward and is designed as a check that you really have met our requirements to be able to offer you the Awareness Level award on the course, which we expect everyone will achieve if you made it to week 5 or have the time to catch up in this final week.

This Week's Feature

AI Planning for Space
Dr. Bradley J. Clement, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, NASA.
  • Senior member of the Artificial Intelligence Group at JPL in Pasadena, CA, where he is developing methods for coordinating planning and scheduling for single and multiple spacecraft/missions.
  • See examples of the use of AI planners in space-related applications.
  • Hear about the rich history and development of AI planners as used at NASA, ESA and elsewhere.
  • Understand the types of applications of AI planning in a range of past, current and future space missions.

The weekly "Feature" videos are required viewing for the Awareness Level of the course.

This Week's Additional Stuff

For Week 5 Lectures

For Feature: AI Planning for Space

For Foundation Level - Final Exam

Awareness Level

For those wanting to follow the Awareness Level of the course you should watch the nominated video lectures marked with ♦ this week, plus the "feature" video. Please ensure now that you do watch all the required videos from each week before you take the Awareness Level final exam where you must state that you have done so. Optionally watch other videos that may interest you.

Performance Level

The course optionally provides programming, practical and creative assignments which can build up to count towards the Performance Level award. The final programming assignment on the course is still open:

More details of the Performance Level award is accessible through the link to "Assignments and Exams".
